When families and agencies choose a caregiver, one question comes up again and again: will we understand each other?

Good communication is at the heart of good care. It’s how a caregiver understands a client’s needs, talks with the family, and handles a situation calmly when something unexpected happens. Yet a CV can only say “good English” or “B1 German”. It can’t show you how someone actually speaks.

That’s why we introduced AI-powered language testing for every Atena caregiver.

Meet Alex, our AI language tester

Alex is an AI language tester who holds a real conversation with each caregiver. Instead of a written test with fixed answers, Alex asks questions, listens and adapts, just like a real conversation with a family or care coordinator would.

How it works

1. Preparation with a consultant. Before the test, an Atena consultant explains how the assessment works and introduces the caregiver to Alex. When caregivers know what to expect, they feel more comfortable and can show their true language level.

2. Practice in one click. Caregivers can start a practice conversation with Alex anytime, with a single click. It’s a simple, stress-free way to prepare.

3. The language test. The caregiver has a natural conversation with Alex, which is recorded.

4. Listen directly from the CV. Once the test is complete, the recording is added to the caregiver’s CV. Families and agencies can press play and hear exactly how the caregiver communicates.

Why it matters

For families, it brings peace of mind. You know your loved one will be understood from the very first day.

For agencies and care organisations, it saves time. Interviews can focus on experience, personality and fit, because you already know communication works. And since every caregiver is tested the same way, comparing candidates is fair and simple.

For caregivers, it’s a chance to show what they can really do, not just what’s written on paper.

More languages on the way

Today, Atena caregivers are tested in English and German, the languages our clients ask for most. We’re already preparing tests in Dutch, French and Russian, so soon you’ll be able to hear caregivers in even more languages before the first interview.
